Altafiumara is the centerpiece of a tale, inspired by Gaetano Bevacqua, that began long ago: the desire to grace the shores of Cannitello with the charm of a typical Mediterranean chiringuito. Together with his wife Irma, Gaetano turned the art of making a swordfish sandwich into a ritual to be shared on the water’s edge. With the arrival of Chef Antonio Battaglia and fuelled by the commitment of their sons, Giovanni and Antonio, the family business naturally evolved into a dining group defined by excellence. Today, that visionary path culminates right here in Altafiumara: a return to the origins, where it all began.

We called our very first dish “Pennette dello Stretto” and from that day on, everything changed

2002

Paninoteca Chiringuito

This venue was established in Cannitello by the Bevacqua family and by Chef Battaglia, who began his culinary journey right here. The menu is simple and revolves around fresh local fish, with the iconic swordfish sandwich quickly becoming the most famous and sought-after specialty.

2004

Chiringuito Beach

[titolo]: Chiringuito Beach
The vision expands: Gaetano, his wife Irma, and Chef Antonio inaugurated their own beach club in Cannitello. “Il Chiringuito Beach” was born, becoming a sanctuary of relaxation on the seashore, right alongside the paninoteca.

2005

El Chiringuito Restaurant

The original paninoteca blossomed into a fully-fledged restaurant. Under Chef Antonio Battaglia’s skillful guidance, the restaurant’s identity soon became one of refinement. The cuisine celebrates the signature dishes that made it famous: Pennette dello Stretto, a triumph of local tuna creations and the exclusive Calabria Made Sushi Fusion.

2013

Villa Chiringuito Restaurant & Banqueting

The group’s forward momentum finds its driving force in the entrepreneurial growth of Chef Antonio Battaglia, opening its doors to the world of events. A prestigious seaside reception venue was inaugurated, bringing their culinary excellence into the Banqueting sector.

2017

La Bottarga Restaurant

Broadening its horizons, the group launched the La Bottarga restaurant in the heart of Milan. An ambitious project created to export the essence of Calabria, celebrating Chef Battaglia’s original hand-crafted bottarga.

2018

Best fish restaurant

Just one year after its debut, La Bottarga has captivated diners and critics alike, earning itself the coveted number-one spot among the finest seafood restaurants in Milan on TripAdvisor.

2022

Altafiumara Resort

After two decades of success, the company took the helm of the historic resort on the Costa Viola. It is the greatest challenge yet: seamlessly merging an iconic coastal destination with our culinary vision and our concept of Mediterranean hospitality.

2026

La Bottarga in Filanda

A new fine-dining restaurant is taking shape at the original Cannitello location, featuring tasting menus and an expertly selected wine list. Combining historical memory with modern innovation, this project brings the excellence of “La Bottarga” back to where it all began. 

Our story has moved in a perfect circle: we started out on the shores of Cannitello, grew through our time in Milan and are now back in Altafiumara, enriched by a journey that never really left the sea, nor our roots.
